The only things is make sure you tape off around the lens well to protect the paint because it is sandpaper your working with. The headlights on my truck were really bad so I figured I would give this kit a try. Very simple system to use and it took only about a half hour and my headlights look brand new.
It looked brand new. A co-worker tried this product with unbelievable results and recommended it to me because my headlights were so clouded. You'll be absolutely amazed. Most importantly, (I had just hated driving at night) now I can actually see the road ahead. He actually volunteered to use the kit on my car after I bought the product because it's so easy to do. I work at a fire station and after he did one headlight, the guys insisted I come look at the difference.
I ended up using my hands. I just brought this online for a total of $25.00(that includes shipping)I just did it this past weekend on June 27, 2009. Although at night with the headlights on it did not clear up that well. But if you are looking for the look of nice headlights during the date(mine were yellowish) it is a great product.I would recommend it to people. It does leave very small scraches on it though. If you expect a new head light look it will be there from far The finished project came out pretty nice.it does look a lot better then before. It worked great although next time i will just by the sandpaper stuff at the store. I have a 2002 honda Civic and the head light is not compeletly flat do to the blinker area so if people like me using the drill with this kind of head light is a bit of a task.
I did see the difference in the different grit sandpapers but was unsure how far to go in sanding. Keep your lenses on the car. I tried to keep swirling to a minimum with my drill and made sure the lenses were cloudy at first and then I want to say they looked almost the same except for smaller scratches with the second set of sandpaper pads. Just tape up the surrounding paint well and reapply if needed. I have a '99 Dodge Stratus and a '98 Lexus LS400. So at first I wasn't sure if A, I believed this would work, and B if I could make it work. I am so happy I read the review here and purchased this kit from 3M. You could not even see the bulbs inside the lens assemblies.
I followed the directions and was able to use one kit for both sets of lenses. So much easier. After using that the lenses were almost completely clear. Thanks for everyone's reviews. I did take out the housings from the Dodge and restored the Lexus' on the vehicle. I am amazed at the results. The polishing paste finished the job. It does everything everyone here claims.
The gray rubber like disc is magic. The Lexus lenses were cloudy and yellow throughout, as new now. Both had oxidized and discolored to yellow headlight lenses. The Dodge lenses were oxidized completely and had yellow/brown spots at the edges, perfect almost brand new now.
The brightness of both lights are now identical and makes it easier to see at night. Obviously if you look very close you can tell it isn't new, but from normal distance they look identical now. I would highly recommend this product. I had one headlight that is only 2 year old and the other is original to my 2001 Taurus. I used the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System on the original headlight and it cleaned up perfectly.
